To me, art is about more than being entertaining: art can carry a message, emotional or societal, which then impacts the audience in a meaningful way. And which better medium to do this, than one that combines visuals, music, rhythm, acting, and so much more? It is through the collaboration of mediums that cinema speaks to me, as an assembly of dozens of team members, all working towards the same vision.
As an assistant director, I see myself as the link between the different roles on a set, and the director. It is primordial to always be in touch with every aspect that goes into the film, and to be aware of what each cast and crew member requires, and when. This has cemented my understanding of filmmaking as a large cobweb of artists and technicians, with each decision reverberating throughout and impacting the whole result. Therefore, I understand how vital it is that everything runs smoothly, both organizationally but also humanly.
